We will have the traditional broad range of programme items running from Friday evening to Monday evening. As well as covering the usual gamut of literary and media SF there will be two themed streams: Military SF and SF Through The Decades.

Military SF

The military SF sub-genre is not a new thing; it can be traced back to the nineteenth century and has been present ever since. It became more prominent after the publication of books such as Heinlein's Starship Troopers and Dickson's Dorsai and is now no longer confined to literary SF; Star Trek, Stargate and Battlestar Galactica can all be easily accommodated within the sub-genre. There will be a number of programme items considering some of why the sub-genre is so popular, how it differs from mainstream SF and what it tells us about current political and social ideas.

SF Through The Decades

Are we living in a new 'Golden Age' of SF? Has every generation asked itself the same question? This stream will not only look at the highlights (and lowlights) of SF from the nineteenth century to the present day but will also investigate how our modern view of SF works may differ from the views of its original intended audience.
